Obituary: Alan F. Kohl, age 61

Alan F. Kohl, 61, of Waupun passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Alan was born on January 20, 1957 the son of Milton and Caroline (Rogers) Kohl in Beaver Dam.  He was a 1975 graduate of Beaver Dam High School.  On August 30, 1986, he was united in marriage to Diane Bruesch in Juneau.

Alan delivered milk for Braun Dairy in Beaver Dam for several years.  He then worked for Service Master.  Later, he took over his uncle Merlin’s position in Kohl Cleaners and eventually became sole owner.  All throughout his life he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar with various bands in the area.  Al was proud to become known as “Willie’s Shadow” and enjoyed entertaining throughout Wisconsin.

He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed making people laugh.  Al loved life!

Al is survived by his wife of 31 years Diane; his son Justin Kohl; step son Kevin Bruesch and his daughter Braelyn, and his mother Caroline Kohl all of Waupun; his brother Michael Kohl and his sister Patricia Kohl both of Beaver Dam; nephew Brandon Sterr of Theresa; two aunts Sharon Kohl and Carolyn Bibow both of Beaver Dam; uncle Tom Rogers and Jake Schoeffel; cousins, other relatives and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his father Milton in 2017, his aunt Gloria Schoeffel and his uncles Merlin Kohl, David Rogers and Ronald Rogers.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Koepsell Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road, Beaver Dam.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Hank Snyder officiating.
