Camp AweSum Family Camp provides a week-long camp for families with children on the autism spectrum. Volunteer Counselors are needed to successfully run each of the three camps being hosted this summer. Volunteer Counselors support all the children of the families (those on the spectrum and those not on the spectrum) for three hours each morning, one hour in the afternoon, and one evening during the week of camp. Campers have all meals with their families. Youth volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a group chaperone or guardian. All camps are held at Moon Beach Camp in St. Germain, Wisconsin.
Moon Beach is nestled in the Northwoods of Wisconsin between Eagle River and St. Germain on the shores of Moon Lake and Little St. Germain Lake. Camp facilities include modern, clean cabins found amongst the native pine, oak, and birch trees. Meals are enjoyed in a family-like atmosphere. Camp AweSum is a typical camping experience: swimming, boating, hiking, arts & crafts, fishing, and campfires. Less typical events include karaoke, variety show, and dance night.
Lodging and meals are provided to volunteers. Volunteers are expected to provide support for three hours in the morning, one hour in the afternoon, and one evening during the week. When not supporting campers, volunteers are invited to enjoy camp facilities along with families. Volunteers may choose to donate to cover costs of meals and lodging. Donating is not required to participate as a volunteer.
When not providing respite or supporting camp activities, volunteers may enjoy the many amenities and natural beauty of Moon Beach. Lodging and meals are provided for volunteers; if you would like to offset this cost, please consider making a donation. Volunteers do not need to have expertise in Autism. Training will be provided and professional staff will be available on site. Volunteers will be placed in a position where they will be successful.
