Limited auditions for ACT I of BDACT’S TOWN HALL TONIGHT — WHEN THEATER CAME TO BEAVER DAM will be at the BDACT theater in the basement, 219 N. Spring St., on:

Friday, September 16, 4:30 to 6:30  & Sunday, September 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

This one-hour act, full of music, vignettes, and humor, may include as many as 50 people, ages 5 to 75, in cameo roles and/or ensembles. Some have a few lines, some will pantomime, and some will sing. Playing an instrument at auditions may be a plus, so feel free to do that. If at all possible, please let me know if you or someone else you know plans to attend either of the audition sessions. As a STAGE II show, casting will be a combination of recruiting and auditioning.

AVAILABLE ROLES INCLUDE:

5 or 6 chlldren, ages 5 to 7, who will sing in a couple of short scenes.

5 or 6 boys between ages 8 and 10, (one will be “Boy Harlowe.” who recites the poem “Sheridan’s Ride” with extreme dramatics, and is in several comedic scenes.)

5 to 7 pre-teen and/or teen girls who sing

Several male adults, ages 20 to 70, one of whom will play “Grandfather Babcock.”

A woman between 18 and 25 years old has a very humorous dialogue scene.

A woman between ages 25 and 45 is young Harlowe’s mother and a piano accompanist for several numbers.

A young snare drummer who plays solo for a dramatic scene.

Specialty musicians: banjo, mouth organ, accordion or concertina, etc.

Vaudeville “Troupers” singing ensemble, all ages — boys and girls, men and women. (Some of the above might also be in the ensemble)

This one-hour act focuses on the 1890’s, with songs, humorous stories, melodramatic skits, and a rousing band of “troupers” who brought some of the greatest vaudeville shows and performers to Beaver Dam’s own Town Hall. It is based on a book by Harlowe Hoyt whose grandfather, Dr. Babcock, owned and managed the Beaver Dam’s Town Hall. This is a fun opportunity for many people to perform in a variety of cameo parts and vignettes while supporting BDACT’s part in Beaver Dam’s 175th Anniversary. Rehearsals will begin the last week of September and will be efficiently sectioned into groups. All of the “acts” will then rehearsal together the last 2 weeks before the show. Show Dates: Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Nov. 10, 11, 13; and Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Nov. 18, 19, 20.

Looking forward to a fun theater experience with you!
