Award-Winning Tradition Continues in BDUSD Schools

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has chosen Jefferson and Lincoln Elementary Schools as 2018-2019 Wisconsin Schools of Recognition for their academic achievement in the areas of reading and math. Lincoln Elementary School has received the award for 8 consecutive years while Jefferson Elementary School has received the award for 6 consecutive years. Only schools identified as Title I schools are eligible for Wisconsin Schools of Recognition. For the eighth consecutive year, elementary schools in the Beaver Dam Unified School District eligible for this distinction have been recognized. Wisconsin Schools of Recognition are acknowledged for their exemplar academic achievement through rigorous programming and attention to individual student needs. Student achievement in reading and mathematics at the award-winning schools is in the top 25% of schools from similarly sized districts, grade configurations, and demographics. Of the 1,217 elementary schools in Wisconsin, Jefferson and Lincoln Elementary Schools are two of only 114 elementary schools that are recognized by the state. They are recognized as Beating the Odds Schools for high achievement in math and reading. Academic success at all schools in the Beaver Dam Unified School District is reflective of the hard work and dedication by all district staff, students, and parents.

The Department of Public Instruction has been awarding this commendation since 2004. The Beaver Dam Unified School District has received 25 Wisconsin School of Recognition honors since 2009.

Superintendent Mark DiStefano said, “When you have great people with great purpose, focused on the right things, success is inevitable. I couldn’t be more proud of the staff, students, parents and community for their commitment to excellence in education as we strive to lead the way in student growth and achievement”.

Jefferson and Lincoln Elementary Schools will be recognized at a ceremony at the State Capitol on May 20. Today is another great day for Beaver Dam Schools!
