Obituary: Verna Rose Kellom (nee Glaesman)

Verna Rose Kellom (nee Glaesman), age 94, Beaver Dam, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on November 28th at The Charleston House.

Verna was born on September 22, 1920, in Markesan to the late William and Rose (nee Ewald) Glaesman.  A graduate of Markesan High School and Wayland Junior College, she returned to Wayland  to work in the office of the president.  It was while she was working in Beaver Dam that she met and married Emerson Kellom in 1944.  Together they operated a successful farm and raised their family.  Emerson and Verna loved to travel and together traveled much of the United States. 

A member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Verna was an active member of the congregation, singing in the choir for numerous years and serving as a Deacon.  She worked in the insurance business in Beaver Dam for many years, retiring from Richards Insurance in 1992. 

Verna is survived by her children, Sherron (Harold) Challis of Austin, Texas, Gar (Kolleen) Kellom of St Cloud, MN, and Kay (Tim) Hansen of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Sarah (Doug) Walls, Meagan, Guthrie (Megann) and Tocher (Darina) Kellom; her great-grandchildren, Sam Stovall, Emmerson, Kohen, Makenzie and Keegan Kellom.  She is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emerson, and both of her sisters, Arla Johnson and Iva Parker. 

A memorial service for Verna will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 215 Gould St., Beaver Dam with Rev. Chris Davis officiating. A memorial gathering will be held prior to the service at church, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.       

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Verna’s name may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
