Mona Schliewe, age 92, formerly of Beaver Dam, WI died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview, Minnesota. The visitation will be at St. Stephen’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam, WI on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul C. Stratman officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

The former Mona Minna Eda Koch was born on April 18, 1922 in Marshfield, Wisconsin to John and Helen (Brummond) Koch. Mona was baptized the same year. She attended Country School through the eighth grade. There were 3 boys and 2 girls in the family. In May of 1935 Mona’s father John died and one week later her oldest brother died. Her mother and the children kept the farm going and later moved to a farm site on Highway 60 near Juneau, WI.  Mona Koch was united in marriage to Walter Schliewe in Salem Lutheran Church at Lowell, WI on June 28, 1941. The couple lived in Milwaukee and while Walter served in World War II, Mona worked at a munitions plant in the area. Following the war, Walter and Mona moved to Beaver Dam, WI and purchased their home at 411 Norris Street. They joined St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where they retained membership the rest of their lives.

Walter and Mona were blessed with 2 children, Dale and Darlene. While Walter worked as an auto-body repairman, Mona was a devoted wife and mother. She kept the home fires burning. Mona baked and canned and helped with the garden. Mona was a member of the Ladies’ Mission Aid at church and later of the Ladies’ Aid. Mona also was a volunteer at the Hillside Hospital. Mona and Walter had 47 years together before Walter died of cancer in 1988. Mona lived in her home, befriended by her neighbors, until 1995. Advancing age caused her to go to live with her son at Vesta for two years and then at Parkwood Assisted living facility nearby at Belview, MN. There she had her own apartment until age 91. Mona was in the Parkview Nursing Home for about one year. Altogether the Lord blessed her with 92 years, 7 months, and 29 days. Blessed be her memory!

Survivors include her son, Rev. Dale (Cindy) Schliewe of Vesta, MN; daughter, Darlene (Brad) Leisten of Snohomish, WA; 5 grandchildren – Matt (Shawn) Schliewe of Sheboygan, WI; Mark (Shelly) Schliewe of Redwood Falls, MN; Miriam Schliewe of West Salem, WI; Kristopher Leisten of Snohomish, WA; Michael Schliewe of Vesta, MN; 4 great-grandchildren Alex, Addie, Mollie and Greta; one sister, Hilda Tietz of Madison, WI and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
