Obituary: Doris Heft

Doris Heft, age 89, formerly of Columbus, died on Monday, June 20, 2016 in Viroqua.

The memorial gathering will be at Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will follow at the funeral home with Fr. Steve Kortendick officiating. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.

The former Doris Virginia Austin was born on August 6, 1926 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Arial and Ida (Kvale) Austin. She was a 1944 graduate of Columbus High School. On October 30, 1946, Doris was united in marriage with David Heft in Madison. After raising her children, she worked for Weyenberg Shoe Factory until her retirement. Doris enjoyed camping and bowling with her friends and family. She was a past member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.

Survivors are her husband David of Soldiers Grove; children, Margaret (Roger) Quamme of Soldiers Grove, Janet Smith of Columbus, and Thomas (Susan) Heft of Oshkosh; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Audrey (Laverne) Hall of Texas; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; sons, David, James, and Philip; her brother, James Austin; infant brother, Ariel; grandson, Jacob Smith; infant granddaughter, Mandy Smith; and great grandson, Noah.
