Freddie O. Nelson

Freddie O. Nelson, age 61, of Beaver Dam, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Froedtert Medical Center in Milwaukee, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Joe Kazmarek will be officiating.

Freddie Owen Nelson was born on January 31, 1955 in Minnesota, to Vernon and Bonnie (Owen) Nelson and his early childhood was spent on a farm near Wheeler, Wisconsin. The family moved to Dodge County while Freddie was in High School. He owned and operated Klean Kut Carpentry in Texas for many years. Freddie later drove truck for a number of years, privately contracting jobs throughout the United States. He thoroughly enjoyed this job as it allowed him to see the world and work at his own pace. After a back injury, he had to make a career move, which brought him back to Beaver Dam. He was grateful for this move as it allowed him to be there for his father and help take care of him until Vernon’s death in 2007. Fred has been helping take care of his mother, Bonnie since 2011. Freddie worked for Vintage Parts and later worked for Kraft Foods, where he was currently employed as a line operator. Freddie was such a loving character. Even as a child, his mother said he was the one that liked to cuddle with her. He was always willing to give folks a helping hand. After his nephew, Joseph, passed away in 2012, Fred took great pride in honoring Joe by hosting the annual Jart the Great Fishery. Although he was a kind man with a huge heart, he wasn’t afraid to tell you what was on his mind. Freddie loved time with family; he especially enjoyed time with kids and they loved him back. Most Sundays were spent at his sister’s house, where he would enjoy a game of Canasta with any family and friends that were around. In his spare time, Freddie enjoyed being with his friends or out fishing; especially ice fishing. But if it was football season, his Bears came first. Freddie was proud of them Bears! Everyone will miss his antics and the way he made us laugh. We will always remember his wonderful gruff voice. He will forever be our favorite.

Survivors are his mother, Bonnie Dillard, of Beaver Dam; brother and sisters, Julie (Paul) Astbury of Sherman, CT, Gregory (Alessandra) Nelson of Tampa, FL, Cindy Hartt of Beaver Dam, and Reneé Nelson of Tulsa, OK; 11 nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

The Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is caring for the family. To leave online condolences, or for directions and other information, please visit our website at www.KoepsellFH.com
