Lucille Helen Boyum, age 101 of Beaver Dam, passed away on November 24, 2016, at home surrounded by her family.

Lucy was born on February 6, 1915, in Fort Atkinson, WI, the daughter of Gustav and Della (Osmond) Heth. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and attended the Normal School in Jefferson County. Lucy was a teacher in Ixonia for eight years, and, as a testament to her endearing nature, she continued to receive cards and visits from former students up until her death. She was united in marriage to Edward O. Boyum on December 30, 1941, in Watertown. Following Ed’s two years serving in the U.S. Navy, they moved to Albion, WI, where they ran a general store for 17 years. With a strong determination and desire for a better life for their family, they moved to Beaver Dam, where Lucy was a director for Viviane Woodard Cosmetics from 1963-76. Lucy was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers. She will be fondly remembered for cooking the best comfort foods, most memorably her famous chili, unmatched banana bread and the best potato salad and baked beans at any bbq. Lucy enjoyed numerous hobbies: playing cards, volunteering for elections, baking for Christmas Bazaars and reading novels. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. Whether it was traveling across the country to visit her siblings, children and grandchildren, or gathering the large clan in her Beaver Dam home, Lucy was her proudest and happiest surrounded by and cooking for her family.

Lucy is survived by her eight children: John Boyum of Beaver Dam, Janine Klement of Pewaukee, Kathy Hudziak of Janesville, Karen Boyum of Milwaukee, Paula (Bill Erdly) Boyum of Seattle, WA, Russell (Jackson) Boyum of Atlanta, GA, Thomas (Jean Burke) Boyum of St. Petersburg, FL, and Patrick (Julia) Boyum of Shoreview, MN; her grandchildren: Jessica (Bill Mitchell) Klement, Anna (Moe) Ahkter, Christina Klement, Peter (Lauren) Klement, Samantha Boyum, Cady Boyum, Sydney Boyum and Jaymie Boyum; her brother, Chester Heth of California; and countless nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband (May 10, 1990); eight siblings; son-in-law, Craig Hudziak; and other relatives.

A memorial gathering for Lucy will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 S. Spring St., Beaver Dam. Fr. Mike Erwin will serve as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
