Carl M. Sommers, age 93, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Carl will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 10:50 AM A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Monday beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
Carl Maxmillion Sommers was born on July 13, 1920 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Frederick and Katherine (Holbach) Sommers. He served in the South Pacific with the US Army infantry from June 1942 to February 1946 and attained the rank of Sergeant. On February 7, 1948, Carl was united in marriage with Norene Wallace at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Carl was employed as a tool and die maker at Monarch Range for 20 years and then at John Deere Horicon Works for 21 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and growing roses. Carl was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council #1837, and the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.
Survivors include his daughters, Kristine (Richard) Weishoff and Barbara Heuer, both of Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, Laura Winter of Beaver Dam, Janel Reifsnider (Loren) of Fall River, Sarah Diels (Jeff) of Beaver Dam, and Ryan Heuer (Beth) Fall River; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Winter (Keith), Justin Winter, Gillian Diels, Hailey Diels, and Mathew Hovland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Peter Sommers and Sylvester Sommers; and two sisters, Sylvia Wheeler and Margaret Bulthuis.
If desired, memorials may be made in Carl M. Sommers name to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Golden Living Center.
