Obituary – Mertig, Karla

Karla M. Mertig, age 74, formerly of Horicon, died on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at her home in Beaver Dam, surrounded by her family.

 

The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The service will follow on Wednesday at the funeral home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Mark Wenzel officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Browns Corners in the Town of Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

 

The former Karla Mae Sager was born on May 18, 1939 in Horicon, Wisconsin to Eric and Rose (Monogue) Sager. She attended Horicon Schools and graduated from Horicon High School in 1957. Karla was united in marriage with Thomas Mertig on December 26, 1960. She was employed by Amity Leather in West Bend for a time and retired from John Deere, in Horicon, after 21 Years.

 

Survivors are her three daughters, Leigh (Danny) Soboleski of Beaver Dam, Shelley Mertig of Beaver Dam, Beth (Dennis) Lutz of Lino Lakes, MN; one son, Jerald (Dawn) Mertig of Beaver Dam; grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Kuehn, Joshua Strade, Erin (Shawn) Mueller, Robin Young, Sevon Young, Kayleigh Lutz, Evan Lutz, Brandi Mertig, and Morgan Mertig; two great grandsons, Brody Mueller and Zander Kuehn; a sister, Gayle (Dennis) Hanna of Guttenberg, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Karla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Mertig in 1996; her sister, Devota Koeck; in-laws, George and Else Mertig; and a granddaughter, Bethany Soboleski in 2009.
