Here’s the Beav, celebrating Paper Bag Day on July 12th. Coincidentally, on July 12, 1883, the U.S. Patent Office issued a patent for a paper bag production machine to Charles Stilwell. Stilwell’s machine was able to fold the paper and produce a bag with a flat bottom — allowing the bags to stand on their own.
Today, there is strong competition from plastic bags, which are cheaper to produce than paper. However, in favor of paper bags is that they are easily recycled — and comparatively fewer plastic bags are recycled.
