Barbara A. Aplin, age 83, died peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
The former Barbara Ann Warren was born on March 30, 1934 in Fairfax, Virginia to Harvey and Bessie (Eustace) Warren. She was a 1951 graduate of George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Barb had a full life which included being the first baseman on a softball team, working at the Pentagon after high school, moving to Mukwonago, Wisconsin and raising a big family with lots of love, humor and great cooking. There, she belonged to the Jaycettes and the PTA and helped to found the Helping Hand Neighborhood Watch. After moving to Beaver Dam she enjoyed bowling, volunteering at the library and she earned several “gallon” pins from the American Red Cross Blood Drives. Mom liked to help others. She worked at Green Giant in the first aid room, and later was proud to complete the Nursing Assistant course and to be employed at Lakeview Nursing Home for 15 years, and then at the Mackie Street Group Home until her health started to decline. She was an avid fan of the Badgers, the Brewers and the Packers. Any time spent children, grandchildren or great grandchildren gave her immense joy. The family would like to thank Hillside Manor for giving her a wonderful last year of life, filling it with purpose, personal attention and excellent care.
Survivors are her children, Ronald of Deerfield, David (Marianne) of Homer, AK, Mary Beth of Beaver Dam, Daniel (Lisa) of Horicon, Linda (Kelly) Bilke of Beaver Dam, John (Sherry) of Lampasas, TX, and Robert of Beaver Dam; brother, Russell (Betty Joe) Warren of Colonial Beach, VA; 21 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin and Robert; sisters, Betty Higgins and Dolores “Pee-Wee” Rice; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Braun Aplin.
If desired, memorials may be made in Barb’s name to the American Lung Association.
