Watertown, WI ~

Return to the elegant 19th Century for an evening of Victorian politeness and decorum where you will be treated to dance music played on antique instruments in the style of the Civil War era. The “The 29th Annual Harvest Ball” will be held in Watertown at Turner Hall on Saturday, November 3. The ball takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is open to all ages. The Harvest Ball makes history live for participants by taking them back in time at an energetic, fun-filled and educational event!

This event recreates the ambiance of a bygone time. It is a formal event where some of the participants come dressed in formal Civil War era uniforms and ball gowns (sometimes with hooped skirts) from the 1850’s and 1860’s. Others often attend as “civilian dignitaries” in formal wear of that era. It is also quite suitable to attend in formal 21st Century clothing. Flat shoes or dance slippers are also recommended. Those attending the ball will enjoy Virginia reels, schottisches, waltzes, two steps and polkas. There will be a stately grand march which is a highlight of the event. For those not familiar with these styles of dance, all set dances will be taught at the ball. The goal is to have a lively, fun evening for all in attendance! You may even run into Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln at the dance.

There are only a few rules. You must leave your sword and spurs at the door and women’s hooped skirts cannot be over four feet in diameter!

So come alone or with a partner or group! You will be treated to dance music played on antique instruments of the era. Everyone will have a good time whether you are an experienced dancer or a beginner! It’s fun to join right into the first dance and let others lead you instead of just watching. You can also enjoy free hors-d’oeuvres throughout the evening and there is a cash bar.

It is with great pleasure that the 1st Brigade Band invites everyone to attend their ball! Tickets are available in advance for $40 per person and can be purchasedwww.1stbrigadeband.org. For groups of eight or more, you can purchase discounted tickets at $30 per person. Tickets are available the day of the event at the door but call ahead to make sure the event isn’t sold out.
